Sample Hazard Chemical Plan For A Veterinary PracticeHazardous Chemicals If you will work with potentially hazardous chemicals, you will receive a health and safety training seminar during your orientation period. You may also receive periodic refresher training and may be required to attend update seminars whenever changes in staff, chemicals, or operations occur. The objective of this training is to provide you with the information necessary to properly and safely perform the assigned work. Some of the topics will include:
If you have any questions or desire additional training, contact _________________________. A complete list of potentially hazardous chemicals located in the hospital has been compiled and follows this plan. For each chemical listed, detailed information can be found on the Material Safety Data Sheet, labels, package inserts, and other references in the library. Each time a new product is received, it will be evaluated to determine whether it should be added to the inventory. Material Safety Data Sheets are filed alphabetically by the product name in the MSDS Binder. The MSDS Binder(s) is(are) located __________________________________. MSDSs are available to all staff members during regular work hours. If you have difficulty locating an MSDS for any product, contact your supervisor or __________________________ for assistance. Every container of a hazardous material (regardless of the size) must be identified (have a label) with the name of the contents and the appropriate warnings. When you use a product directly from the original container, the manufacturer's label will contain all the necessary information. If you must transfer a chemical to another container for dilution or just for ease of use, you must attach a secondary container label with the appropriate information. All secondary containers must be labeled uniformly so that quick, accurate information may be obtained when necessary. An example of the labeling system in use at this hospital is attached to the end of this plan. Contact your supervisor or __________________________ for assistance in attaching warning labels. When outside contractors may be exposed to any chemical hazard in the normal course of their work on the premises, they will be informed of the in-house labeling system in use, the protective measures to be taken, the safe handling procedures to be used, and the location and availability of MSDSs. Any contractor bringing chemicals on to the premises which may affect the safety of the hospital staff must provide the hospital with the appropriate hazard information, including labels used and any precautionary measures. ____________________________is responsible for ensuring the provisions of this plan are achieved.
