Looking for an OSHA Consultant?

It doesn't have to be that hard!

While OSHA's "paperwork rules" are confusing to some and simply overwhelming to others, you don't have to give up. Good leaders endeavor to make their hospital a safe and pleasant place to work, but many just don't have the time to develop and implement a comprehensive safety program.

As a consultant specifically for the veterinary profession, I am in a position to know the rules and develop practical ways to apply them at your hospital. Therefore, you can have a hospital safety program that complies with OSHA's Standards without a major personal time investment. But perhaps the best part of my program is how simple it is to keep up - most practices can stay in compliance with less than two hours a month!

Since every practice is different and some need more assistance than others, there are several levels of service available.

The Complete Safety Implementation Program

As the name implies the complete program is just that-complete!  I'll observe the practice in action then document the required programs for compliance.  Here's what you get for your money:

  • I'll start with a comprehensive safety assessment of the practice procedures and facilities. I'll provide a written report of the conditions as well as recommendations for an appropriate solution to any situations that violate safety principles or OSHA Standards . This report will meet OSHA's requirement for a written hazard assessment of working condition.

  • You'll receive a Hospital Safety Manual that's customized specifically for your practice. The safety manual will contain all the written plans and training materials needed to complete a comprehensive safety program.
  • I'll furnish all documents, plans, posters, pamphlets, labels, etc. necessary for compliance - I'll even apply the signs and posters where necessary. If additional safety equipment (such as gloves or eyewash devices) is required a source will be provided for procurement through your regular process.
  • One of the most time consuming parts of OSHA compliance is completing the inventory of hazardous materials that is required by the Hazard Communication Standard. But don't worry, I'll do this too! Only current, in-use materials will be included in the program. Dated or obsolete materials will be identified or collected for your disposal instructions.
  • Proper identification of secondary chemical containers is easy because I'll supply and attach a specially designed label that's easy to understand.
  • An assessment of the Material Safety Data Sheet library will made and the library will be organized in an easy-to-use manner. If you don't have one of the MSDSs you need, don't worry - I'll start the process of locating them for you.
  • Since the cornerstone of any safety program is staff awareness, I'll present a two hour staff safety training session. The training will cover common hospital safety problems, reinforce the prevention methods that employees can follow to protect themselves and inform each staff member of his or her responsibilities and rights under the Occupational Safety & Health Act. Twenty-five staff training workbooks will be provided at no additional cost (additional workbooks are available at a discounted fee).
  • To keep you current, this service includes a one year subscription to The Veterinary Safety & Health Digest. The Digest is a bimonthly newsletter for the veterinary profession containing topics related to the safety and health of the veterinary hospital staff with a particular emphasis on complying with OSHA requirements.
  • Finally, to handle situations that may arise in the future, I've included twelve months of unlimited telephone support to your hospital for discussing any safety related issue.

Safety Review & Staff Training Program

This service is for the practice administrator with a workable program already in place, but who just wants to ensure nothing has been overlooked.  This service includes:

  • Communication and follow-upA comprehensive safety assessment of the practice procedures and facilities.
  • A written report of the conditions as well as recommendations for an appropriate solution to any situations that violate safety principles or OSHA Standards.
  • Evaluation of the existing Hospital Safety Manual or written safety policies. We’ll suggest revisions and improvements to make the manual compliant with OSHA and industry standard practices.
  • A staff training session that covers common hospital safety issues and reinforces the prevention methods that employees should follow to protect themselves and stay in compliance with governmental rules
  • Ten staff training workbooks for use in training future employees.
  •  A one year subscription to The Veterinary Safety & Health Digest.
  • Six months of unlimited telephone support to your hospital for discussing any safety related issue.

Telephone advice & support

As you would also suspect, telephone assistance is always available for specific projects or questions.  All it takes is a telephone call or e-mail to get the help you need!

Have a special situation?  Are you looking for a specific service that's not listed?  No problem.  We can customize a program to suit your needs.  Just give us a call.

Guarantee

Of course, there is a complete satisfaction guarantee; I'll refund the entire fee, except any expenses that have already been incurred, if I fail to meet the expectations of your hospital. Since veterinary hospitals continue to undergo change, I cannot guarantee that you will always stay in compliance with OSHA's rules; however, I can assure you that if you follow the practical guidelines we'll establish in your hospital, you will have shown an overwhelming intent to comply with the regulations
